a less than spectacular victory over St Mirren

By: j | November 16th, 2008

The Rangers defeated St Mirren 2-1 at Ibrox is less-than spectacular display by the Gers. After opening up a two goal advantage with Kris Boyd’s strike five minutes from the start and Steven Davis following up five minutes later, the Rangers looked to be in the mood for a blowout but the Saints showed tremendous resolve and fought back. St Mirren ‘keeper Mark Howard certainly could make claim for man-of-the-match as he kept his club close with a series of superb saves. After the two goal cushion he shut down the considerable challenge the Rangers had and with nine minutes remaining, Craig Dargo back-heel to Franco Miranda was driven to the back of the net. With the margin only one, the Saints saw the opportunity to grab a point and pushed forward. Late heroics by Scotland international Allan McGregor saved the day for the Rangers and he denied the Saints attempts the Rangers came out with the 2-1 victory and three points.

The Rangers return to SPL action next week against Aberdeen, four points behind top of the table Celtic
