a painful realization
By: j | August 5th, 2008I will be providing a complete run-down of this match but I know with coverage being so difficult it is likely best I inform you immediately that the Rangers lost 2-1 in their Champions League qualifier against Lithuania’s FBK Kaunas. They are now out of European competition for the year, only months after competing for the UEFA Cup title.
It is a painful realization but this club is not playing with heart and lost to a team, not better then them but simply had more nerve and more pride in the shirt they wore. These mighty Glasgow Rangers were not so mighty and were pushed on their heels by a determined squad looking to bring glory to their club, their fans and homeland.
The Rangers went into the second half with the match level at one and knowing full-well that they’d advance with a draw, they played well back on their heels. The Lithuanian underdogs fought voraciously with many attempts to score and finally with five minutes to spare ex-Hearts man Linas Pilibaitis headed home a corner and sealed his name in FBK Kaunas history.
I will provide a deeper analysis, presuming one is even necessary but with Falkirk and the start of SPL season only four days away, it is time to reconsider the mettle of this squad. Amongst the signings and chit-chat of how much is to be spent, this club needs men who play with heart.
