a story of Motherwell

I think it needs to be stated like fellow members of our little SPL blog we share a sense of responsibility in not only discussing our clubs but equally reporting with respect on those clubs not represented. This is quite a unique situation and from time to time it puts a different twist to our comments. In many ways it takes a little bit of the “gloss” off the posts but equally it serves the game in Scotland better. One result of this is a more unbiased commentary and from time to time, giving credit where credit is due.
With this in mind and in-regards to the Rangers - Motherwell match that concluded in a scoreless draw, enormous credit is due to Mark McGhee’s ‘Well. Since taking over the managerial position Mr. McGhee has done a superb job not only with the clubs performance but ensuring the development of the game at the regional level. That is a point that is easily missed in the sport but personally it is something I appreciate as it adds a intangible investment in the community with far-reaching benefits. Facing a tough task today, knowing the Gers needed three points to stay abreast of Celtic, they played a brilliant match, never backed down and if it wasn’t for the work of Scottish capped ‘keeper Allan McGregor they would have come out with the victory. Most notably Chris Porter’s volley ten minutes after the break looked to headed to the opposite top corner but a last minute dive flicked the ball away. The Rangers had numerous opportunities to net the winner, starting with Kyle Lafferty’s early effort and a variety of chances by Barry Ferguson, Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller but each fell short of scoring.
The Rangers return to action against St Mirren at Ibrox sitting four points behind Celtic.

I agree j, hats off to Motherwell for an excellent showing. In several ways they were the Gers’ equal, and Wattie and his boys were lucky to escape with a draw. I thought Smith’s play in goal for ‘Well was as equally impressive as McGregor’s.
