Chris Burke heads to Cardiff City
By: j | January 9th, 2009After representing the Rangers for seven season Chris Burke heads to Welsh side Cardiff City of the Championship.
Cardiff manager Dave Jones in noting his new man said:
“I think he thought he was going to Birmingham, but there was a hitch at the last minute, it fell through and we stepped in.
“I hope he brings the pace, skill and delivery that he has got.”
Of the move, Chris Burke said:
“I was down there last night and after they gave me time to think about things, I didn’t need much persuasion to go.
“Going there gives me a fresh start. I wasn’t progressing the way I wanted to at Rangers and I wasn’t playing as much as I’d have liked.
“Moving is a new challenge for me. I enjoyed my time at Ibrox but I needed to move on and I feel as if it’s the right moment for me to go as I need to be getting games.
“I need stability in my life as I’ve got a family to support now so moving away and getting a clean break is the best thing for me.
“I’m not saying I’ll walk straight into the team at Cardiff but they’re a club on the up – they’re building a new stadium there and their new training facilities look excellent.
“On top of that, they’re pushing for a place in the Premiership. It’ll be difficult to get there but it’s my aim to help them do it.
“That’s where they belong. I feel as if they’re big enough to be there as they’ve come leaps and bounds over the years and hopefully I can do well there.”
This might not receive a great deal of press coverage but in my opinion to lose a young man who joined your club at seventeen years of age is a sad commentary. Mr. Burke, who hails from Glasgow, should have had a greater opportunity with the club since returning from injury and as Rangers fans look back on season, do not forget this. I will temper my venom but am simply disgusted with management that greater effort was not made to keep him with the Gers.
