is Carling’s sponsorship on safe grounds?
By: j | January 26th, 2009With rumours swirling that Carling will be severing its sponsorship with the Rangers and Celtic at the end of the 2009-10 campaign, a spokesman for the company stated:
“Our position is that we will sit down with both clubs later on in the year for talks about our future partnership.
“But these talks about our commercial relationship going forward beyond 2010 are months away and haven’t even been scheduled.”
The deal pays the both clubs upwards of £2m each per year and would be a significant loss in the present economic climate. Carling maintains that despite rumours of it pulling for the Scottish market, it is in-fact increasing its investment in the area.

The Daily Mail said that Carling will pull the sponsorship and I say good riddance. Shit beer, shit company, shit ceo.

The way sponsorship is moving in this financial period I am very concerned with the entire SPL. I expect a number of sponsor issues throughout the league to re-consider their investments.

I tend to agree with Matt – Celtic and Rangers won’t have trouble finding a better deal. The other teams, however, may not be so likely. I just hope Caley can keep its little Flybe deal, with how badly airlines are doing.

I hope you’re both right and we’ll see how this shakes out in the next few months.
