Kilmarnock match review
By: j | September 13th, 2008Kris Boyd led Rangers to a resounding 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock to claim the top of the Scottish Premier League table. Frazer Wright gave the visitors to Ibrox the lead at the nine minute mark off a Garry Hay cross that Allan McGregor failed to deal with properly. Kilmarnock held the lead till the fifty-eight minute when Manuel Pascali brought down Nacho Novo in the area and a penalty was awarded. Kris Boyd calmly stepped-up and netted the first of his two goals. Only four minutes later, Steven Davis set-up Kris Boyd with his second goal. Kilmarnock pressed through the closing but were unable to break the defensive net. Saša Papac in particular should be pointed out for his efforts on the goal line in the final minutes, clearing tying goals away from the net twice.
The match also marked the debut of Maurice Edu to the Rangers lineup as he was pressed into duty with Kevin Thomson continued injury woes. He definitely showed himself well in the heat of battle. Rangers face Motherwell next weekend.
