Alex – do you think that was part of their motivation in bringing him in? I personally suspect that, especially as you consider how they are trying to cultivate an online business.

RBNY you are 100% correct in that the US media really dont show any interest in the game.

One other point you touch on is the US market and how it lacks any Rangers presence.

I have lived in various parts of the US for the last 10 years (in between trips home to Glasgow for a few months at a time)and Celtic have a very large support here.

Ranging from Soccer balls, shirts even Celtic radio on the satalite stations.

Rangers have been lacking here and do need to step up their game to get access to this revenue and keep their brand the game growing here

RBNY fan – I honestly appreciate your opinion on this matter and find it very informative if not eye-opening. Certainly you are a concerned Football fan who wants to see the sport grow with the United States, which from my standpoint is something I have hoped for a great deal of time. Given you wouldn’t be aware, I have tried to run camps, clinics, even unique leagues within the country for quite some time but have found the biggest problem isn’t with supporters but the media who gives it a third-rate image.

I hope you’re monitoring this post because I’d like your opinion and others do you find this issue with Mr. Edu being a Ranger a sense of national pride for yourself or others Americans? This is interesting area to consider, not only from the role of your consideration but I equally thought the Rangers brought him not simply for his play or possible increase in value post World Cup but also to increase their visibility within the U.S. market.

RBNY fan- I appreciate your comments and respect your opinion but it was extremely over-priced from what I’ve seen of and for that they could have went with highly experienced talent. I certainly hope Mr. Edu does well but my point is, I support regional talent and I don’t know why Scottish clubs consistently insult top-flight Scottish players. Each of the players I mentioned should have been scooped up by the Rangers this transfer window but they didn’t even make an attempt. The loss of Robert Snodgrass as an example, was ridiculous and if you had him and Steven Lennon on the pitch, we wouldn’t be talking about Striker problems.

And he might be a steady player but he will be in tears from the embarrassment after meeting Aiden McGeady this weekend…

I agree with you to all to an extent, but you have to keep in mind that Edu isn’t the type of player who scores a lot of goals or really stands out in a game. He is just a steady player and a great role player. Jozy was very hyped because he is in the stats sheet and scores goals, which earned him a high transfer fee. Maurice is a great young talent with a bright future and this payment isn’t too far off in my eyes.

Oh yeah I agree. He fits well into Wattie’s system as a defensive mid, but 2.6 million was an overpayment. I think Rangers fans wanting to sign someone kind of increased his price.

Matt - to be quite honest, as much as I've seen him play and he has done well, I thought £2.6m was extremely over-priced. I would have liked to have seen Charlie Mulgrew,Robert Snodgrass, or Kevin McDonald brought-in, albeit slightly different style players but this, just doesn't add up to me. They could have easily added all of them at the start of the summer at less than half of this cost and would have been great investments for the Rangers as well as Scottish Football. I also contend that Steven Lennon is a striker that would have found the back of the net if given a chance but never was.
