Nacho Novo leads Rangers to 3-0 victory over Falkirk
By: j | January 27th, 2009
Promising a more aggressive plan than the weekends scoreless affair against Aberdeen, Walter Smith’s club responded with a 3-0 victory over Falkirk to win a spot in the final of the Scottish League Cup. With Kris Boyd back in the lineup, the Gers took the lead at the eight minute mark as Madjid Bougherra flicked on Pedro Mendes’ corner to Nacho Novo to finish off from point blank range. Confidence soaring, the Rangers poured forward but Falkirk was up to every challenge until Steven Davis’ provision was turned in by Nacho Novo from just a smidgen beyond the six. Falkirk’s morale was clearly shaken and rarely looked capable of advancing, with the exception Lee Bullen’s header that Allan McGregor did well to push aside and Scott Arfield’s volley that soared above the crossbar. With thirteen minutes remaining John Fleck for Steven Naismith and the young teen continued to prove his worthiness as he immediately provided Kris Boyd the perfect opportunity to add the third goal but the strikers effort fell short. With two minutes remaining the Rangers added the third with two minutes remaining as Falkirk ‘keeper poorly handled the ball and Kris Boyd scooped up the ball and dispatched it into the net.
Following the match, Walter Smith said of Nacho Novo’s effort:
“Nacho is always alive and well and tonight he caused Falkirk a bit of trouble with his movement.
“Novo was the goal hero at Hampden”He managed to get himself a couple of good goals and that is great for him as he deserves them for the amount of work he puts in.”
The Rangers return to SPL play this weekend against Dundee United.

You gotta love Nacho Novo and his attitude. Falkirk keeper had a complete shocker though…
