of keeping Kris Boyd
By: j | July 21st, 2008
I started to debate my first Rangers post (well, actually my second if you include the first but we need not get picky yet) and I had an obvious assortment of topics to consider given that…well, we had nothing up.
I was considering of rehashing some of last season, the successes and even the failures but then started to consider the new reader. Maybe I should talk of a glowing history of these mighty Glasgow Rangers, their rich heritage in the sport and the devoted fans. Yet what would a introductory post be if I didn’t comment of the extraordinary history and awe-inspiring beauty of Scotland. So you see my dilemma, amongst the historical considerations on a variety of issues, the modern growth of the nation and its incredible culture, I have to choose a good starting point. Well given that I have no way out of this wandering tale and as much as I revel in lecturing on historical points, I think I’ll turn my attention to one matter that needs to be dealt with; finding a way to keep Kris Boyd.
The young Mr. Boyd, less than a month shy of twenty-five years of age can simply be described as a goal scoring machine, a predator with a keen eye to match his deadly ability to ball the ball in the back of the net. Since coming over from Kilmarnock in 2006, he has netted a remarkable fifty one goals in only seventy-seven matches and even though he spent much of last season coming off the bench, he was still the teams top goal scorer. Some may argue other weaknesses in his play, I for one have a hard time complaining of Strikers that simply score and score a lot.
Of course this doesn’t go unnoticed and now with Cardiff City promoted to the Championship League, Manager Dave Jones has made £2.5m offer for Kris. While subsequently rejected by Ranger Manager Walter Smith, he has also made it known that he would be willing to part with Kris for cash and Bluebird defender Glenn Loovens. While the Rangers are laden with Strikers, none packs the track record of Kris Boyd and I am hopeful to see him at Ibrox for a very long time.
So voice your opinion, let me know what you think of this situation.

Do Rangers not have the funds to keep Boyd? As much talk as Ian and the other Glasgow-Club haters do about the bullying of Celtic and Rangers, it is not as if Peter Lawell and Sir Davie are doing laps in pools of money a-la Scrooge McDuck. Celtic, because of the successes have been able to sign McGeady and Boruc because of CL money and the UEFA Cup cash will help Rangers, but I think many of the readers outside of Scotland need to realize it is not exactly the Argentinian League-big club domination here. Rangers having to bid with Championship Cardiff City for Boyd and Celtic competing with Birmingham for Gabriel Tamas seems like proof of this.

First of all, my Celtic friend (see, we’re building our online rivalry) I applaud the “Scrooge McDuck” anecdote. I would have went for an RBS reference however…I honestly DON’T think Kris will stay and this is just anteing up for the best amount of cash. The roster is far too Striker heavy in my opinion and I think once Kenny Miller came in, something was up. BTW - the Georgios Samaras was a great deal for you. You could a great price.

Well as a die hard Celtic supporter, it would not sadden me to see Kris Boyd leave. He is the Gers striker I fear the most. I would much rather have Walter field Kenny Miller in a lone stiker role, which in my opinion is a detriment to this Rangers side.
