Rangers deliver Hamilton a horrible 7-1 defeat
By: j | December 6th, 2008
Following last weeks disappointing loss to Hearts, Walter Smith’s Rangers responded with a rousing 7-1 shocker over Hamilton Accies. Sarcasm aside, the match started well for Hamilton but went downhill fast. Two minutes after the start Chris Swailes’ cross was re-directed in by James McArthur to give the Accies the lead. The carnage began at the eleventh minute as Kenny Miller picked up a loose ball at the edge of the box and sent the ball to the back of the net. The match stayed close with only Kris Boyd’s goal at the twenty-eighth minute on the ledger to bring it to a 2-1 scoreline at the break. However with the re-start, the match turned into a one-sided affair with Kris Boyd scoring from the spot seven minutes in as Martin Canning was shown a highly undeserved red-card. While I’m opening up a can of worms, quality unbiased decisions are important in the game and referee Calum Murray quick red-card was completely uncalled for and led to the slaughter. This has no place in the game, regardless of who you support as does running up the score when the match is no longer in doubt. However with Hamilton down a man, the dogs needed to be called off as Rangers as Kris Boyd completed his hat-trick two minutes past the hour with Steven Davis feeding him a pass with an open goal. The goal-fest continued in the final ten minutes as the Rangers padded their stats against a beaten team with Kyle Lafferty, Nacho Novo and Steven Davis adding their name to the score-sheet of a 7-1 devastation of Hamilton.

and I missed this one at work. Well I am thrilled with the result and combined with the Tims finally dropping points and making this a title race once again I’m quite pleased.Didn’t see the play so I can’t comment on the red card but I have to say that with it not impossible that goal difference could decide the title you can’t fault the lads for contiuing to put them into the net even when it’s a romp like this.

Dave – I appreciate your comments and like yourself, I am very pleased with the win.
I debated writing it as such because I know it is inflammatory. To say I appreciate Football in Scotland is an understatement and I mean this from all angles – the heritage, the style and likely the people most of all. With that in-mind I expect the game to be played with a certain approach and horrendous calls such as this have no place. It wasn’t a straight red-card but I also thought this was a game with men, where a tough, brave challenge still had a place. We don’t need this type of officiating in the SPL or they’ll turn this into a league where diving is rewarded. While few consider it, if you are to “over-judge” a simple foul then you need to do the same with dives. Does that make sense?
Regarding the scoreline – you are right. However what comes around, goes around and after been gifted the advantage Walter Smith should have known when enough is enough. The match was 2-1 when the call was made and there is a grave difference between say, 4-1 than pouring it on till its 7-1 and I don’t like the message Walter Smith was sending. That wasn’t needed and I would assume the sixty year-old manager would have acted differently and shown professional respect. But then again if I was in-charge Kris Boyd wouldn’t see a blade of grass or wear the crest until he apologizes to Scotland and Mr. Burley.

And in doing so you would jeopardize Rangers’ title-bid ?
Burley is an incompetent manager, I have no problem with Boyd telling people that he doesn’t want to play under such a man.I still haven’t seen highlights yet, weird since normally I can get them the day after.
And in a race against Celtic, who win with big numbers on occasion goal difference can be crucial, so i don’t care if they pile the goals on Hamilton. A 7-1 win is a massive boost for confidence, even if it is just Hamilton, as where a 4-1 would be seen as ‘normal stuff’.Posted from
