Rangers progress in Scottish Cup

By: j | January 13th, 2009

The Rangers will progress to the fifth round of the Scottish Cup thanks to a close 2-0 victory of St Johnstone. The Rangers were kept in check for the majority of the match with the home side Saints clearly creating the majority of opportunities before the break. However an unfortunate own-goal by Stuart McCaffrey when he re-directed Kris Boyd’s cross into the net, giving the Rangers the lead two minutes before the half. Following the break, the Rangers still were a step slow and failed to look like a club considering a championship run and were unable to add the second goal till eleven minutes remaining when Nacho Novo closed out Steven Davis provision. Although they searched to get back into the match with a goal, St Johnstone’s efforts fell short and the match concluded with a 2-0 score.

The Rangers will now face Forfar Athletic in the next round following their 6-1 victory over Forres Mechanics.
