Rangers surprise Caley Thistle

By: j | November 1st, 2008

Said most simply, the Rangers shocked Caley Thistle, winning 5-0 at Ibrox. Craig Brewster’s club has been going through a rough spell of-late but today the wheels came off with the Gers overwhelming them. The goals came fast with Nacho Novo opening the scoring seven minutes after the start and followed with Kris Boyd filling the back of the net at the fourteenth, nineteenth and twenty-eight minutes. Before the break Kenny Miller added his name to the score-sheet perfectly volleying a Nacho Novo cross behind shell-shocker Caley Thistle ‘keeper Michael Fraser.

With the match no longer in doubt, Walter Smith wisely introduced twenty-year old Rory Loy for Kenny Miller eleven minutes after the break. The promising striker from Kilmarnock was a welcome addition and I trust in a commitment to Scottish Football, we’ll see more of him in the future. Equally and of particular note Captain Barry Ferguson entered at the same time in what is first appearance of the campaign.

In a matter of far greater importance the members of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion, 5th Royal Regiment of Scotland, true hero’s, attended the match.

Ally McCoist said of their visit:

“We were delighted to welcome the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Battalion to Ibrox and are fully behind Poppyscotland’s 2008 appeal. Footballers are often regarded as heroes but the people who serve and fight on the front line for their country are the real heroes and it was an honour for us to have them here.”

The Rangers return to action this Tuesday against Dundee Utd.

The next Old Firm Derby is going to be incredible. Both squads are rolling though the SPL at this point, minus the ‘Gers hiccup against St. Mirren. ; )
