Rangers v Falkirk match preview
By: j | January 16th, 2009Whether the drama off the pitch out-paces Falkirk’s visit of Ibrox remains to be seen but situation revolving around Walter Smith’s camp has went from a steady simmer to look to boil over at any minute.
As fan groups grow weary of the endless barrage of departures and possible moves, there is a small contingency that are starting to question the financial mismanagement of the Rangers. It is painfully obvious that poor business planning has put them into the position of needing to sell off players that otherwise would have been avoided if they simply had planned better. It is a telling statement of the financial game-plan when the club was willing to accept £3m for Kris Boyd, the SPL’s leading scorer, after purchasing Maurice Edu, Steven Davis and Pedro Mendes for £2.6m, £3m and £3m respectively this summer. While the club is in the heat of the battle for the top-spot, upper management must look long and hard at who is handling this aspect of the club and realize the severity of their error.
That of-course is a matter for another time because the Rangers must deal with their match against relegation threatened Falkirk at Ibrox although it is likely with the backdrop of fan protest groups. Only five points behind first place Celtic, a visit of Falkirk is needy of a resounding performance by the ‘Gers to silence, even if for a few short shorts, fan unrest. Walter Smith will have his full club with the exception of Kyle Lafferty. It has been a tough year for the Bairns and manager John Hughes will need his club reverse its defending trend of being the most porous club in the SPL. Falkirk’s new addition Steven Pressley is likely to feature in his first return to Ibrox.
As always I will report on the match as it concludes.
