Scottish League Cup: Partick Thistle v Rangers
By: j | September 24th, 2008When looking at this match I think a great deal is summed up by Walter Smith’s comments:
“When you are not involved in Europe then the League Cup is an important tournament.”
“We wanted to do well on the domestic scene last season and it is only domestic football we have this season so we want to be successful on all fronts.
“We don’t have the same fixture congestion that we had last year so I won’t be making too many changes from the side that beat Motherwell at the weekend.”
Quite obviously after cascading out of the Champions League, Rangers focus is on domestic competition so you can expect them to go all out for each of these matches.
Unfortunately for fans of the game, Steven Lennon, who was loaned out to Partick Thistle by the Rangers is ineligible for the match. Rangers are without Steven Whittaker and both Andrius Velicka and Kyle Lafferty are likely to miss to non-Football related illnesses.
I will report on the match as it concludes.
